Olympic Peninsula Disc Golf Association Celebrates Successful 2024 and Unveils Ambitious 2025 Plans

Port Angeles, WA – Apr. 11, 2025 – The Olympic Peninsula Disc Golf Association (OPDGA) is thrilled to announce the successful completion of numerous course improvements and fundraising efforts in 2024, and to share exciting plans for continued growth and enhancement in 2025.

In 2024, the OPDGA invested $5,400 into improving the RainShadow and Lincoln Park disc golf courses. A significant portion, $3,500, was dedicated to repainting the baskets at RainShadow, enhancing visibility and longevity. An additional $1,900 funded vital upgrades including a new tee pad for hole 2; new locks, brooms, flags; and the creation of a new hole between holes 5 and 6 at Rainshadow. This follows a $10,000 investment in Lincoln Park in 2023, which included new baskets and the addition of three new holes (D-F).

“We’ve done a lot of work on both courses in terms of regular ongoing maintenance and that makes me happy to have courses in the area that people provide positive feedback on, especially when they say something like ‘the local club sure does take care of this course’”, said Rick Burns, president of the OPDGA. “We have two really good courses in Clallam County and when we have tournaments here, people from all over the state come to play them. RainShadow is currently the #5 ranked disc golf course in all of Washington State and attracts players from all over the world.”

The OPDGA is funded through fundraiser tournaments, weekly tag rounds, and basket sponsorships. Additionally, a special fundraiser was held at Lincoln Park to support Dusty Humphries, a local resident whose home was lost in a fire.

The year was also marked by a vibrant schedule of events, including hosting the Boy Scouts, Port Angeles Day of Play, and numerous tournaments. Notable events included Winter Warmup, RainShadow Open, Whitefeather XIV, Fern Burn, weekly tags at both courses, PDGA-sanctioned leagues at both courses, and Bubble Doubles (Evergreen Women’s Series fundraiser).

Looking ahead to 2025, the community has ambitious plans to further enhance both courses:

RainShadow:

  • Complete the alternate tee pad area on hole 2, including a retaining wall, benches, and signage.
  • Address hardware needs (nuts and bolts) on the baskets.
  • Introduce blue tee pads to all holes, culminating in a “Ball Buster” tournament to gather feedback on the new layout.
  • Develop a green layout, similar to the Boy Scout truncated course.
  • Explore the possibility of a glow tournament with County Parks.

Lincoln Park:

  • Replace tree-mounted directional signs with new directional signs for each tee pad color.
  • Install new hole signs for all holes.
  • Assist the city to add boulder barriers to keep cars off portions of the course and rejuvenate with natural growth
  • Replace bridges with durable, non-slip surfaces.
  • Trim, move logs, and clear debris from fairways.

Projected 2025 Tournament Schedule:

  • Ball Buster: May 3rd (RainShadow blue tee pads)
  • Raindoubles: June 14th (RainShadow)
  • RainShadow Open: July 19-20 (RainShadow)
  • Rippin in the Rhodies: August 24 (Lincoln Park)
  • Whitefeather XV: October 4 (Lincoln Park)
  • MVP Space Race glow discs: Mid-September/October (RainShadow)
  • Labor Day clean-up day barbecue: September (Lincoln Park)

The OPDGA is dedicated to providing high-quality courses and fostering a welcoming environment for players of all skill levels. They extend their gratitude to all volunteers, sponsors, and participants who have contributed to their success.
